Serious Illness Conversations Workshop

OVERVIEW

This 1.5-day workshop will equip healthcare professionals with the skills to conduct serious illness conversations with patients and families. The Serious Illness Conversation Program offers healthcare professionals a structure and language to talk with seriously ill patients about their goals, values and priorities as part of shared decision making

Learning Objectives:
  • Appreciate the importance and benefits of serious illness conversations.
  • Discuss the evidence for the Serious Illness Conversation (SIC) Program
  • Identify the key elements of the SIC Guide
  • Practise use of the SIC guide
  • To understand the similarities and differences between SIC and Advance Care Planning
  • Discuss the barriers and enablers to real world implementation of the SIC Program

FACE-TO-FACE WORKSHOP

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is for doctors, nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with serious illnesses and have a passion to learn communication skills to conduct serious illness conversations.

PREREQUISITES    
Proficiency in English
Ability to commit to entire workshop
(Full 1.5 days at face-to-face workshop)
