OVERVIEW
Join us for the first in Singapore fully online Serious Illness and Palliative Care Education in Surgery (SPLICES) course for healthcare practitioners!
This interactive, asynchronous course aims to equip clinicians with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify, address, and manage common supportive and palliative care needs of seriously ill patients in surgery. This course will supplement participants’ pre-existing skills to further enhance their ability to support patients and improve quality of care.

• Overview of Surgery in Head and Neck Cancers
• Grief and Bereavement
LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Recognise patients who have palliative care needs and know when to refer to specialist palliative care
• Recognise your role in generalist palliative care
• Explain basic principles of management of pain and common symptoms in surgical care of seriously ill patients
• Communicate with patients and their families using the Serious Illness Conversation Guide to elicit patients' values and preferences
• Use the “best-case and worst-case scenario” tool for communicating treatment / care options
• Apply ethical principles using the Jonsen's Four-Box Approach to guide complex decision making
DETAILS
Learners will access materials such as videos, animated presentations, readings, assessments on the Learning Management System (LMS) at their own pace and time.
Estimated time to complete the CORE Modules: 2 hours
Estimated time to complete the entire course: 4 hours
Learners have access to the materials for one month upon successful registration.
The online self-paced learning is supplemented by an online forum that will address any questions and comments at the end of the course.
